A Big Thank You from Deaf People of Kenya

Simeon Ongiri

 Email: Wednesday, August 27, 2008

The Bible clearly says that when we get to heaven our Lord will wipe off all the tears from our eyes and we are eagerly longing for that day. But it’s also nice to know that there are  indeed friends here who are concerned about others and wipe some tears from  eyes of others. Thank you very much for doing to others as if you were the others.

On behalf of myself and the deaf here in Kenya, we wish to convey our sincere thanks to White’s Ferry Road church of Christ for thinking of us during the time of our need.

Tobias Odhiambo and Peter Langat   traveled with me to different places where we met deaf IDPs and assisted where we would.

We went to Naivasha, Nakuru, Molo, Gianchere Oyugis and Homabay. Per the advice of the deaf leaders, wedid not buy much of  instant food  as we did last time. It seemed to us that each had a different need, especially this time when the government was forcing them out of IDP camps. Because cholera disease broke out in Nakuru IDP camp and killed some people, most of them had already moved. Very few people were still in the camp.

We gave donations to a total of 24 deaf IDP's and one deaf school that had accepted 33 deaf IDP children in their school.  Others helped:

Naivasha  9

Nakuru 7

Oyugis 4

Homabay 2

Molo 2

Some of these needed some capital to start small businesses which of course was a good idea- (instead of giving  a fish, give a fishing net to enable catching more fish every day)

Wickliffe Omondi - started a business of buying and selling chickens

Francis Were - sheep business

Douglass has became a hawker

Others preferred to be given money to buy household items according per what each person needed.

We donated $400 to Gianchere School of the deaf due to a large number of IDP deaf children who joined their school. They call them deaf Orphans because they have no place to go when the school is closed or, they do not know whether their parents are alive or dead.

There is so much I wish to say about this,  but  my main idea is to say a very big thank you for letting the deaf here know that you love them by sharing what you have

I tell you that the money has made a big difference amongst the deaf IDP's.

See the pictures.

God bless you and yours,

Servant to Christ
